"The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing"

Hello and welcome to my site. Just to give you a little bit of information about myself, I am Jim Brown and  was born on the banks of a good salmon river in the west of Scotland in 1956.  By the age of 10  I had moved on from catching small trout to catching salmon.    My first  salmon was a 5lbs bar of silver and it is still fresh in my memory.  At the age of 14  I was fly fishing and tying my own flies.  As a young man I was lucky enough to have travelled around Scotland fishing in some of the best salmon rivers, the like of the Spey, Tay, Ness, Tummel and most of the west coast rivers including the Doon, Stincher, Annan and the Nith.

In 1980 I came over to Ireland and since then I have had the opportunity to fish all of the main salmon rivers, however, my favorite is the river Nore.  It is not just for the size of its salmon but also its beauty and the people who fish it.

Over the past 25 years I have been involved in guiding and fly casting tuition also the political side of fishing from the stop now campaign to the removal of an impassable fish pass and at present I am working on the setting up of a river trust  and ghillieing on the Ballygallon estate waters.

So now that the drift nets are gone and the river is full of salmon this would be a good time to sample some great fly fishing on a beautiful river.

If you would like to be part of the Nore experience you can contact me at
