"A RIVER IS WATER IN ITS MOST  BEAUTIFUL STATE"

Let me guide you on the Nore, fly fishing for salmon and trout

on some of the best fly fishing streams in Ireland.

The River Nore (Irish: An Fheoir or Abhainn na Feoire) is one of the Three Sisters rivers

It starts on the Devils Bit mountain in Tipperary and flows 87 miles to the sea at the entrance of Waterford harbor. Most of the salmon fishing is done in the lower part of the river above Inistioge and below Kilkenny.

The salmon on the Nore range in size from 7lbs to 30lbs+ the grilse up to 7 lbs. We have a run of seatrout up to 4 lbs.  The fishing starts on 17th of March and ends the 30th of September.

The trout fishing on the Nore is very good and the average size is about 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound but trout of 3 to 5lbs are caught occasionally during the season. The best trout fishing is between Thomastown and the area around Durrow.

Most of the fishing is controlled by clubs/associations with permits available locally, some private fishing beats can also be  arranged.

So regardless of your fishing skills whether you are a novice or an expert you can join me on the Nore experience

Typical fly water on the Nore

A Testimonial  from Dr Ian Thomas

"We were fortunate enough to fish the Nore at the end of September last year We didn't know what to expect as we had not ventured to this part of Ireland before. However, excitement mounted as we approached the valley and we first saw the river at Inistioge and again at Brownsbarn where we met up with you and took a closer look -  boy -were we impressed - salmon everywhere!

This really was a sight for sore eyes for four fish-starved anglers from Wales, we could hardly believe our good fortune, and couldn't wait to get cracking the following day.We were bowled over by the beauty of the valley and the perfect size of the river with the streamy runs and glides that make for good fly fishing. It's at least twice the width of our home fishery, the Teifi but just what this particular Doctor ordered as we were looking for big river fishing having just acquired our double-handers for the trip.

We subsequently enjoyed three superb days sport during which we met twenty one fish between the four of us returning all that didn't manage to return themselves.Regrettably we didn't hook any monsters but we saw plenty so we'll be back for them. The fish were a good size however and Wil had two approaching the 15lb mark.I was in fantasy land on our second morning taking four fish on the fly but most importantly we all caught fish and loved every minute of our stay. The more cosmopolitan among us would rate the Nore the equal of the more famous Scottish rivers, all I wish to say is that it is an absolute gem.

I also know that the Nore river Trust boys have worked incredibly hard to create this happy state of affairs and you must be gratified to see your efforts pay off so handsomely. It was also very kind of you to take time out to guide us,we really enjoyed your company and have never experienced a welcome quite so overwhelming anywhere. You are an inspiration to us all and you have set the benchmark for salmon river conservation."
